Take-Two's Plans Suggest GTA 6 Only in 2023 [Updated]
It is possible that we have leaned the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6. What suggests it, is a large increase in Take-Two Interactive's planned marketing expenses for the period from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.
Update:
Take-Two Interactive has issued a statement on this matter in which it denied the analysts' speculation on the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI.
The publisher stated that the planned increased marketing expenses for the fiscal year 2024 are due to obligations towards third-party entities. Thus, they do not concern the title from Rockstar Games, which is owned by the company.
We're back to square one when it comes to GTA 6 and it's not clear now when we can expect the game to be released.
Rumors about tGrand Theft Auto VI have been making rounds on the web for a long time. It is practically certain that the project is in development, but there are many indications that we will wait a long time before it is released. According to new information GTA 6 will be released in 2023 at the earliest.
The source of these reports is the recent financial report of the series' publisher, Take-Two Interactive. The report states that the company intends to spend $84 million on marketing in the fiscal year 2024, i.e. from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. This is more than twice as much as in any other upcoming year included in the report.
Of course, all of this should be considered as speculation for now. But GTA is by far the most valuable brand for Take-Two Interactive. We may expect the company to have ambitious marketing plans for Grand Theft Auto VI. It is worth recalling that earlier analogous data from financial reports allowed fans to predict when Red Dead Redemption 2 will hit the market before the game was even announced.
In 2023, GTA 5 will celebrate its tenth birthday. As a release date, this may seem a long way off, but it also makes sense. The game is probably being developed for next-gen consoles, so Rockstar Games may want to wait for enough people to buy PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
In addition, the fifth part of the series is still doing great. This year, from February to May, an additional 10 million copies were sold, and April was the best month in the history of Grand Theft Auto Online in terms of microtransaction revenue. GTA 5 is still earning so well that no one is in a hurry to replace the game with a sequel.
