Iconic jRPG Brand Tactics Ogre Will Return

Thanks to a trademark registration, we learned that Square Enix is preparing the return of Tactics Ogre, a classic brand of tactical RPGs.

We have excellent news for lovers of tactical jRPGs. Square Enix has registered the Tactics Ogre: Reborn trademark, which suggests that the publisher is preparing to revive this classic brand.

  1. The registration was made on March 31, but fans only discovered it now.
  2. Square Enix hasn't announced the game for now.
  3. This is most likely the same project as the "Tactics Ogre Remaster," which was mentioned in the now famous GeForce NOW database leak. Many of the titles listed there (such as the PC version of God of War or the remaster of Chrono Cross) were later officially announced.
  4. It is possible that the game will be made in HD-2D style, as Square Enix has recently hinted that it is preparing more such projects.

So we can expect a refreshed version of one of the games from the series. The game will probably hit not only consoles, but also PC, as the titles that appeared in the data leak were intended for this platform.

Since the launch of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together in 2010, no new installment of the series has been released.

Fans of Tactics Ogre have not received anything new for a long time

Fans of Tactics Ogre have not been spoiled recently. The last installment of the brand remains the 2010 Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (for the PSP console), which was a remake of the second part of the series, originally released in 1995.

The series began 29 years ago with Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen for the 16-bit SNES console. The brand was developed by Japanese studio Quest, which was acquired by Square Enix in 2002.

Tactics Ogre is one of the most important brands for tactical jRPGs, but it's pretty much forgotten these days, so its return should be appreciated.
