Ubisoft Promises Star Wars Outlaws With Unique Planets the Size of 2-3 Regions From AC Odyssey
Star Wars Outlaws will offer players huge and hand-crafted planets, according to the game's creative director, Julian Gerighty.
Star Wars Outlaws ranks among favorites of this year's "not-E3" shows. The game, developed by studio Massive Entertainment, after a phenomenal gameplay presentation immediately became one of the most anticipated high-budget titles.
On the occasion of the announcement, the developers revealed that the game will offer the possibility to explore "large and open" planets both on foot and in vehicles.
Until recently, we could only guess at the scope that the project from the creators of, among others, The Division series, would achieve. Today we know more, because its creative director, Julian Gerighty, has shed some light on this and other interesting topics related to Outlaws in an interview for the EDGE magazine (via mp1st).
Huge planets polished by hand
The developer revealed that:
- the planets we will visit during the gameplay - and there will be several of them - will be huge, and traversing them even with a vehicle will resemble a "journey."
- A single planet in Outlaws will be the size of 2-3 regions from Assassin's Creed Odyssey (the entire game contained seven of them);
- all terrain is made by hand, not procedurally generated;
- each "location" is to be meticulously thought out and designed;
- care has been taken for "full freedom" when it comes to battles;
- This freedom, however, will be lacking when it comes to flying a spaceship - it will be able to land and take off only in designated zones;
- The key in Outlaws will be the reputation system, the appropriate level of which will unlock exclusive quests or discounts at vendors;
- in the game we will be pursued by bounty hunters and various factions, depending on our actions;
- our animal companion (Nix) will listen to our commands and assist us in clashes or interactions with the environment;
- Nix is to be a combination of the spiderbot from Watch Dogs, Elizabeth from BioShock: Infinite and BD-1 from Star Wars Jedi.
While these all sound very promising, the release of Star Wars: Outlaws is still far away. The title is scheduled to debut in 2024 and something tells me that Ubisoft will be targeting rather its second half. The game is heading to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
