Ubisoft's Star Wars Game Shouldn't be Expected Anytime Soon
Star Wars game from Ubisoft is being developed by Massive Entertainment. However, we are years away from its launch. The developer does not want to say anything about it.
- The Star Wars game from Ubisoft is in early stages of development;
- We can expect the launch no earlier than 2023.
The new Star Wars game is in the early stages of development and we are a very long time from its release. This information was revealed by the CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, during a recent investor call, during which the company shared the financial results for the last fiscal quarter.
The announcement of Ubisoft's cooperation with Disney appeared in early January. It was revealed then that a Star Wars game will be created by Massive Entertainment (authors of The Division series). Initial information confirmed that it will be an open-world title powered by the Snowdrop engine.
This was confirmed once again by Guillemot.
“The project will be headed by our Massive studio, who will make the most of their cutting-edge technology, including the Snowdrop engine, to deliver a groundbreaking Star Wars adventure.”
When asked if the developers can handle supporting The Division 2 and creating a new game, Ubisoft's boss reassured the questioner by informing that the Scandinavian studio has a lot of people working with other teams and can handle more than one project without much trouble. With that, Guillemot confirmed that The Division 2 will still be supported in 2021.
When asked about the approximate release date of the new Star Wars project, Frederick Duguet, responsible for finances at Ubisoft, replied that it is still too early to bring up the subject. The game is in pre-production and will likely debut after the Avatar project, which is targeting 2023.
