Star Wars: Dark Forces May be Getting a Remaster
The head of the studio responsible for remakes of Quake or System Schock games announces further refreshes of classic FPS games.
FPS games from the 1990s are definitely experiencing a renaissance. The original Quake has lived to see a remaster as early as 2021, and this December we'll probably get a chance to experience the refreshed version of the first System Shock. There are many indications that this group of modernized classics will be joined by Star Wars: Dark Forces.
Stephen Kick already 3 years ago expressed his desire to create a remaster of the 1995 Star Wars shooter. The head of Nightdive Studios, responsible for new versions of such titles as Quake, Blood or Turok, published a Tweet addressed to Disney, in the form of a public request to greenlight such a game. At the time, he was met with much support from Internet users.
Just five days ago, Kick once again caused an online storm with his statement on Twitter. He decided to respond to the graphic, published by user SentientCRT, which depicted the greatest classics of the FPS genre:
This statement has become a source of speculation from fans of the highlighted titles. One of the possibilities behind Kick's suggestion is precisely a remaster of Star Wars: Dark Forces, which, in light of years of debates and strong player support, is becoming highly likely.
On the other hand, however, the Star Wars brand is currently owned by the giant that is Disney and games from this universe are being developed with the company's standards in mind. It's hard to believe that a somewhat violent game from 1995 would be allowed to be distributed without extensive changes. Perhaps we should rather wait for a full-fledged remake?
