Star Wars: Andor With More Seasons, but No K-2SO for Now

Alan Tudyk, who plays the role of droid K-2SO in Rogue 1, revealed in an interview that we won't be seeing him in the upcoming series titled Star Wars: Andor. He will only appear in future seasons.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Work is underway on Star Wars: Andor;
  2. Alan Tudyk, who plays K-2SO, has admitted that he's not involved in the production at the moment, but we should expect to see him in future seasons.

A TV prequel series to Rogue 1, titled Star Wars: Andor was announced even before Disney's big reveal of future plans for the Star Wars universe. So far, of course, we knew that it would focus on the story of Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna), with a few other interesting names like Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller being involved in the production.

Unfortunately, we definitely won't be seeing Alan Tudyk in the show's first season, and he played the fan-favorite role of droid K-2SO. The actor admitted this during an interview for Collider, but he also said that there are more seasons of the series to come in the future and that it won't end with just a few episodes. So no worries, K-2SO will return, but we'll have to wait a bit for it.

“They're shooting it right now, I'm not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I'll end up in there.

I'm going to be in the show. It's just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn't involve K-2SO until later on... I can't be too specific, but I can definitely say that I'm not going to be in the first season.”

Tudyk also confirmed that production work on Andor is continuing, so we can expect the scheduled 2022 premiere to happen. Before that, however, we'll get season 3 of The Mandalorian and the highly anticipated The Book of Boba Fett, among others.
