LG Likely to Pull Out of Smartphone Market
There have been reports suggesting that LG is pulling out of the phone market. While the company is an honored Android-based smartphone manufacturer, it has been performing below expectations with sales of its devices.
This year will mark 14 years since the release of the first LG smartphone. The Korean manufacturer repeatedly tried to conquer the market with devices from the G, and later also the V series. Recently, Velvet models and the innovative Wing, equipped with two independent displays, one of which rotates, went on sale. However, as it turns out, it may be the swan song of the recognized brand. There are reports that by the end of this year LG will withdraw from the smartphone market.
Content of a message that was sent to company's employees leaked to the media. It contains an order to stop any work on projects other than Rollable (a phone with a rollable screen), along with the information that the decision to abandon the smartphone market will be announced at the end of January. Ken Hong, a spokesperson for LG, has dismissed these revelations. On the other hand, The Verge reports that LG has confirmed the authenticity of the news, but no final decisions have been made yet. As we can see there are conflicting reports , and in fact only the future will verify the plans of the Korean company. Taking into account the increasingly strong competition and losses suffered by the department of Android mobile devices, leaks do not seem detached from reality. Will Rollable be the smartphone crowning LG's fourteen-year activity in this branch of electronics? It is possible that the answer to this question will be revealed soon.
