Mobile Technologies has announced that their MMO Stalker Online will debut on Steam in the fall. However, you can already download the game's client on the official website, as the project is in the open beta phase.
The press release published by the devs may suggest that it is an announcement of a new title and so the news has been reported by many websites. In reality, however, it is about the STALKER Online project, which has been available for several years now, powered by the BigWorld Technology engine. Comparison of graphic materials leaves no doubt that it's the same game, so it's just a matter of arousing interest before it's released on Steam. Fow now, it is difficult to assess whether there have been any significant changes in the game as a consequence.
Stalker Online takes players to an alternative version of the 21st century, allowing them to explore radioactive exclusion zones. The zones are located in post-Soviet areas and filled with architecture typical of these regions.
The game world has an open structure, allowing for free exploration. The combat mechanics is typically shooting, and the devs boast of realistic weapons. To this, we have some RPG elements, such as unlocking new skills and character progression within the profession system.
In the game we can join forces with other players or fight with them. Zones are also filled with aggressive mutants and dangerous anomalies. While the game usually uses TPP, when aiming it is possible to switch to the first person view.
