The debut of Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl could have gone definitely better, as the game arrived with many problems, including the usual mix of issues. The examples can be crashes and stutters, HDR not working, controller problems, audio bugs, flickering textures, or even oddities like muddy camera movement. Despite all of that, the reception of the game is surprisingly positive, considering the number of challenges Stalker 2 faces. However, many of us would rather not take the chances. Backing up the saves is a great idea to prevent progress loss, yet first we have to learn where those files are located. No matter whether you play the title on Steam or via Game Pass, here you will learn where the saved games are.

Save files location in Stalker 2 (Steam and Game Pass)

It makes no difference if you would like to simply back up your saves or whether you need it for other purposes, knowing the directory where a game keeps those files is a valuable knowledge. In case of Stalker 2, the situation can be a bit more complex, as the production is available in Game Pass, which complicates things a little bit, yet it’s far from impossible to find them. Depending on where you play the title, the directory containing saves differs. Their location goes as follow:

Save locations on Steam

C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\Stalker2\Saved\Steam\SaveGames

Save locations on Game Pass

C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\Packages\GSCGameWorld.S.T.A.L.K.E.R.2HeartofChernobyl_6fr1t1rwfarwt\SystemAppData\xgs\<long_string_of_characters>\SaveGames

As you can see, the path containing saves for Game Pass version of Stalker 2 includes one more variable in the form of a folder which name is a semi-random string of characters. They will look more or less like this: “0008000006216E54_0000000000000000000000007BF72398”, yet this value is different for everyone.

Regardless of the launcher that you use to play Stalker 2, the exclusion zone is a dangerous place that is easy to get lost in. Why not take a look at a map of this region that we have prepared?
