Squad Gets Patch 2.0, Adding New Map, Wepons, Improved Optimization
Offworld Industries prepared an extensive content update for Squad players, which will enable us to use new weapons, on a new map and with freshly added vehicles. The title has also been more thoroughly optimized.
- The online FPS Squad has received the rich update 2.0;
- It adds new weapons, vehicles and a map, as well as improvements for the game's technical side.
In September 2020, after more than four years of early access, the full version of Squad, a multiplayer tactical FPS focusing primarily on large-scale battles, launched. A few months have passed, and the players have already managed to get acquainted with what the game has to offer, which is why Offworld Industries released (announced for some time) update 2.0, which adds a lot of new content and improves the title's technical aspects.
The full list of changes is available here, posted by the devs on Steam. We will try to describe the most important, in our opinion, fixes and innovations. Let's start with optimization, because it may, contrary to appearances, have the greatest impact on increasing our satisfaction with the game. Squad is to work faster and more efficiently - this is mainly associated with a reduction in loading times for maps and their individual layers.
There are also improvements in lighting, texture quality, and reduction in the amount of GPU resources used by the game. The visual settings menu also looks different - it has been re-modeled to minimize the advantage on the battlefield coming from enabling/disabling certain options. Players who find the game's interface unreadable and chaotic will be happy to know that the devs now give us the option to hide individual parts of it, such as server or team names. The devs also got rid of a lot of bugs, but the list is so long that you have to check it yourself.
As for strictly gameplay-related novelties, they manifest themselves in the form of a map, vehicles, and weapons. Let's start with a new battlefield, called Goose Bay and being a Canadian coastline located between Lake Melville and the Churchill River. By the devs' decision, it will replace Nanisivik.
As far as weapons and means of transport are concerned, there is a lot of them for one update. The players can wield, among others, a few types of Mosin-Nagant rifles (both with and without a scope), the powerful RPD light machine gun, or, for example, two types of modern anti-tank weapons from the RUS RPG28 and GB NLAW series.
As for vehicles, there's a whole spectrum of them - from ordinary four-wheelers like the GB LPPV armored jeep, through tracked tanks like the GB FV520UA CTAS IFV, to the GB SA330 transport helicopter. There's something nice for everyone.
The new patch came to Squad yesterday, so you can enjoy the changes after you launch the game. You can find the title on Steam.
