Sony is Looking For New Head of Mobile Games Division
A job offer suggests Sony is looking for someone to take over the team responsible for developing mobile games.
Interesting news comes to us from Sony. It turns out that the Japanese company is looking for a head of mobile department to lead the team creating games for mobile devices.
As follows from a job ad, which was found by one of the users of ResetEra forum, Sony is looking for the right person for the position. Their job will be to develop strategies for the development of original mobile games from PlayStation Studios and help build the foundation for their future development. Apart from that, the head of the department is also expected to focus on adapting the most popular PlayStation brands for mobile devices.
It seems that a large part of the players will be keenly interested especially in the porting of well-known series to smartphones and tablets. We don't yet know what form this will take, but many are already asking questions about whether such games will be able to match the quality of their console counterparts. Unfortunately, our lack of divination skills means we don't know the answers to these questions, but it seems that Sony is unlikely to want to risk the reputation of its biggest series and if we do get a mobile God of War, for example, it won't be an endless runner or tile-matching game. In addition, many people would probably like to see games like LocoRoco or Patapon on smartphones, and Sony opening up to the mobile gaming market may bring more similar gems.
Such a move by Sony comes as no surprise, as the competition has long been gaining a foothold on the wildly profitable mobile market. Subsequent games bring hundreds of millions of dollars in profit, and the number of players using phones is constantly increasing. It's worth mentioning such smartphone adaptations of hits from "large" gaming platforms as PUBG Mobile, Fortnite, Pokemon GO or Call of Duty Mobile. All of these titles earn a lot of money on microtransactions and have a lot of loyal fans.
If you're waiting for such games from Sony, we advise you to arm yourself with patience. The announcement says that the team has to develop plans for a new project for the next three to five years. This means we're unlikely to see any PlayStation Studios mobile games announced in the near future.
Perhaps with the closure of the PSP and PS Vita digital stores, Sony is looking for new ground for games designed for portable gaming and spin-offs of large series. Let us know in the comments what you think of such moves by the Japanese company and if you are interested in mobile games that Sony might produce.
