Slime Rancher Movie Announced by Studio Responsible for John Wick
Slime Rancher is another independent hit that will receive a movie adaptation by Story Kitchen.
Recent movie adaptations of video games have fared quite well, even if they have not received universal acclaim from reviewers. It could have been predicted that this would translate into a flood of such productions. Nevertheless, probably few expected the announcement of a feature-length movie based on Slime Rancher from Story Kitchen (via Deadline).
The company may be familiar to gamers. This is because it is the same label that is preparing a TV show based on Vampire Survivors as well as a movie based on Sifu. Its founders are Derek Kolstad (screenwriter of John Wick), Mike Goldberg (formerly associated with New Wave Entertainment and the APA agency) and Dmitri M. Johnson (producer of the Sonic movie).
Also Slime Rancher should be known to video game fans. The work of Monomi Park is a flagship example of an independent hit that conquered the market already in early access. On Steam the title has more than 110 thousand reviews, 97% of which are positive.
The title also lived to see a sequel. Admittedly Slime Rancher 2 has so far only made it to Steam's Early Access, but nevertheless the game has already achieved a decent success and receives no worse ratings than the first part.
For now, nothing has been revealed about the plot or the planned release date of the Slime Rancher movie. The original game wasn't focused on the story too much, although it was also not a sandbox devoid of plot. As Beatrix LeBeau, we ran a farm of the titular and (mostly) adorable slimes on a distant planet, but during the course of the game we also learned about events from the distant past.
