Silent Hill: Ascension is 'Complete Garbage;' Monetization Sparks Outrage Among Gamers
The release of Silent Hill: Ascension Konami can certainly not be considered a success. The latest installment of the iconic series faces criticism from gamers, mainly due to the introduction of microtransactions.
Silent Hill: Ascension is the latest installment in Konami's iconic horror game series. Prepared by Genvid Interactive, the game is described as a "new form of entertainment" - or interactive series - that enables the players to actively participate in the development of the plot by voting on choices that determine the fate of the characters.
And while this sounds really encouraging at first glance, enthusiasm disappears when one learns that there are ubiquitous microtransactions behind this mechanic. In short: the more we pay, the more important our votes become. Of course, it is also possible to vote for free, but then our opinion is less taken into account, because we do not have enough influence points.
This type of solution - combined with the season pass and the Founder's Pack, containing, among other things, additional cosmetic items and priced at $19.99 - was not to the liking of players, to put it mildly. The community poured out its bitterness via ratings in Google Play, where Silent Hill: Ascension can "boast" only 1.4 stars out of a possible five.
The wave of outrage also poured over to social media, where the community does not bite pull its punches when talking about the game and its general lack of polish. Here are sample comments:
"This app is completely garbage. You out microtransactions in it??? Really? Lmao this is a joke for silent hill and the app interface is horrible. I deleted it. You should too," writes @harry_mason99.
"I'm ok with Silent Hill Ascension looking like a shitty Until Dawn knockoff with QTEs ripped straight out of Man of Medan. What I'm not ok with is a narrative focused horror game having a fucking season pass and microtransactions," declares@motosonic13.
Silent Hill: Ascension was also commented on, in very unfavorable terms, by game developer Adrian Chmielarz, who said:
It seems that the devs are facing really hard times. Will the critical comments force them to usher in changes to their title? We will hopefully find out soon.
