Sea of Thieves Opens Store With Microtransaction
As announced, Sea of Thieves is making a microtransaction store available to the players. Its offer includes pets, emoticons, and cosmetic items. For the most expensive set, which includes structural elements of our ship, we have to pay around $27.99.
It's been almost a year and a half since the release of Sea of Thieves. The game turned out to be a huge disappointment for the first players who decided to put on pirate hats right after its highly advertized launch. The negative reactions were so great that many people expected the early death of Rare's work. However, thanks to the constant support of developers and making the game available in Xbox Game Pass, Sea of Thieves received a second chance. Today, devs have announced another major step in the development of the title, introducing the microtransaction store announced for several months, referred to as The Pirate Emporium. As usual in the type of events, fans are very concerned about what they will find in it, and how this will affect the gameplay model, which is geared towards competition with other players.
In an entry on the official Sea of Thieves blog, developers point out that all virtual articles sold in the store are completely cosmetic and do not significantly affect cances of success in the game. They also reassure us that they do not intend to offer any lootboxes or blindboxes with rare and limited objects. On the other hand, the devs are not particularly proud of the fact that they use a tried and tested method of consumer manipulation based on the sale of a virtual currency (Ancient Coins), which is the only means of payment in the premium store. The prices will be as follows:
Premium currency price for Ancient Coins in Sea of Thieves:
- 150 coins - $1.99
- 550 coins - $5.99
- 1000 coins - $9.99
- 2250 coins - $22.99
- 4250 coins - $34.99
It is worth noting that Ancient Coins will be found defeating a rare in-game enemy - ancient skeletons. How many coins will be able to be earned in this way theoretically remains a mystery for the time being.
The players can access the Emporium from the main menu, as well as from selected locations in the game world, such as taverns. The assortment of the store currently includes two types of animals (parrot and monkey), which are available in several different species/colors, available separately for the price of 499 coins each. For our furry and winged companions, we will also get costumes for 249 coins.
Emporium also offers a total of eight new emotes for our character. Two of them will be bought independently at 149 coins, the rest will be bought only by choosing a set of all emotes for 999 coins. Definitely the most expensive item in the shop is a special and time-limited seven-part set of cosmetic items for the ship, which is intended for fans of the Banjo-Kazooie series. It is available at a price of 2499 coins.
