Microsoft Cancelled Redfall for PS5; Offline Mode Planned

Redfall may get an offline mode, but the PlayStation 5 version was buried by Microsoft's intervention.

Two interesting pieces of news about Arkane's next game have appeared on the web. The first is the confirmation that developers of Redfall are working on enabling the players to play without a network connection.

Redfall not always online after all?

The information was provided by Eurogamer, in an interview with Harvey Smith, the director of Redfall. The creator assured that the studio has taken to heart the negative reaction of fans and is aware of the potential problems that players might have with the need for a constant connection to the Internet during gameplay (for example, when they have a weaker connection or are "competing" for it with their family).

Therefore, the team at Arkane Studios is investigating whether there is a way to make it possible to play Redfall offline. Smith could not promise anything, but assured that the developers are actively working on adding such an option.

Redfall on PS5 was in the plans

The second issue that surfaced today is the issue of Redfall's PlayStation 5 version, which was said to have been canceled after the acquisition of Bethesda (owner of Arkane) by Microsoft. Here, too, the source is Harvey Smith, who mentioned it in an interview with for IGN France.

According to the director, immediately after being absorbed by the Redmond giant, Arkane Studios employees were told to focus on PC, XSX/S and Game Pass, not PlayStation 5. He did not specify what stage of work the Playstation edition of Redfall was at, but apparently Sony just got another reason to distrust Microsoft.

Interestingly, Smith called it a "sensible decision," because giving up one different platform relieved the developers somewhat. The developer also believes that thanks to Game Pass Redfall could become the "biggest game" in the studio's history when it debuts on May 2.
