VG247: 3 / 5 by Jeremy Peel
An echo of Arkane’s past glories - one in which the studio’s unique voice can still be heard, but more faintly than we’ve come to expect.
TheGamer: 2 / 5 by Eric Switzer
Redfall isn’t a total disaster, and there’s fun to be had in slaying vampires, especially with a couple of friends. But to call Redfall a shallow experience would be an understatement. I’m happy to loot and shoot and make my own fun, but there still needs to be something there to pull me through it. Nothing in Redfall, from the loot to the characters to the exploration to the power climb, ever made me want to keep playing, or feel like there was something more to achieve. No amount of bug fixes or updates will be able to improve Redfall’s fundamental gameplay flaws. It’s not just rough around the edges, it’s rutted all the way through.
Game Informer: 5 / 10 by Alex Van Aken
Looking at the world of Redfall, I become sad by its wasted potential. For every great location, there are a handful of forgettable ones. The result is an empty-feeling game with several puzzling problems, like a lack of proper stealth takedowns, a tedious quest and waypoint system, and the inability to pause gameplay in single-player mode. Rampant technical issues hinder brighter moments, including frequent server crashes during multiplayer, inputs failing to work, broken animations, and numerous other bugs that make playing Redfall a frustrating experience. For a game about fighting the undead, Redfall feels soulless in all the wrong ways.

Redfall Description
Redfall is a co-op FPS, in which we play as heroes facing off against hordes of vampires. It was developed by Arkane Studios, specifically by Arkane Austin, also responsible for Prey and Dishonored.
Plot
Redfall is set in a fictional island town in Massachusetts. The titular town of Redfall has been overrun by vampires, created as a result of a failed experiment. These supernatural beings eclipsed the sun and cut off the town from the rest of the world. We play as adventurers, having arrived in Redfall to deal with the bloodsuckers.
Mechanics
Redfall makes use of the first-person perspective (FPP). There are four playable characters to choose from, varying in terms of skills, equipment and playstyle. Devinder Crousley is an ambitious inventor and cryptid tracker fighting with self-made weapons; Layla Ellison is a biomedical engineering student who gained telekinesis after a failed experiment; Remi de la Rosa has extensive military experience and fights alongside the robot Bribón; Jacob Boyer is a sniper, using his cursed vampiric eye and raven companion.
The town of Redfall is open and can be freely roamed during gameplay. The players will encounter plenty of vampires, which can be dealt with in various ways. Depending on our preferred playstyle and chosen character, we can engage the enemies in open combat while wielding pistols, automatic weapons or shotguns, pick them off from a distance with sniper rifles or be stealthy and eliminate them quietly. Our characters become stronger as we progress, letting us face greater challenges. Acquired weapons can also be modded.
In addition to main quests, there are also plenty of side missions and optional activities. These include liberating districts by dispatching vampire squads and powerful bosses. We can also head into vampire nests, which change after every visit, to truly test our skills. Hideouts scattered throughout the entire town provide valuable moments of respite.
Game modes
Redfall was prepared with four-player co-op in mind. Regardless, the developers did their best to keep the game interesting for solo players as well.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Redfall are nothing to sneeze at. The enemy models, weapons and detailed locations may be especially appealing.
