Redfall is Just a Brief Affair? Arkane Doesn't Want to Go Deeper Into Open Worlds

The director of Redfall, the latest work of Arkane, admitted that after this open-world title, the developers will most likely return to more linear productions.

Redfall - the latest game from Arkane, due for release this year - is significantly different from previous games in its portfolio (Dishonored, Prey or Deathloop). Unlike the aforementioned titles, Redfall will be set in an open world that can be traversed at will.

Whether this change in the construction of the world and gameplay will work out well for the developers from Arkane, we will probably find out in a few months, but if we believe the words of Harvey Smith - director of Redfall - the developers from Arkane will most likely return to a proven formula.

A break, not a new direction

In a recent interview with GamesRadar Harvey Smith admitted that he likes the level design of games such as Dishonored.

"I like them [such games - ed. note] and eventually we will probably return to the very closed environments typical of immersive sim games. [...] I have [ideas for - ed. note] three or four more games, I hope. And I feel that at some point we will go back to what people know us for."

Although Smith added that for a co-op game like Redfall, the open world would be ideally suited to playing with friends, this does not mean that Arkane will abandon its current direction. Especially since the developer declares that Prey from 2017 is one of "his favorite games of all time" and the reason why he would like the studio to return to more linear productions.

The functioning of open world in Redfall will be available for examination on January 25 during a show titled Developer_Direct.

Redfall will be released on PC and Xbox Series X/S. The game will also be available at launch as part of the Game Pass subscription.
