Quake's Return is Almost Certain; Game was Rated by ESRB
It looks like a Quake remaster is indeed coming. Despite the lack of an official announcement, the game has already been rated by the ESRB organization.
- The official website of ESRB and The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea posted an age rating for Quake;
- It's probably about the game's remaster;
- The title will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.
A week ago, an interesting piece of information circulated the web. Bethesda accidentally revealed then that during the upcoming QuakeCon a revitalized version of Quake will be revealed. The news was quickly deleted, but it managed to spread on the Internet. It looks like we've just received further proof that a remaster of the iconic shooter is indeed coming. This time ESRB and Korea's The Game Rating and Administration Committee are responsible for the leak.
The first of these is an American-Canadian organization engaged in video games age ratings. The same function is also performed by the aforementioned Korean committee. One of the latest games reviewed by them is the aforementioned Quake, whose target platforms are to be PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The ESRB gave it an M rating, indicating that it is suitable for ages 17 and older. The rating justification reveals interesting details about the title.
"This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of a soldier that travels through time to stop an evil force from destroying humanity. Players traverse through maze-like medieval environments and use shotguns, nail guns, and grenade launchers to kill various enemies (e.g., zombies, demonic forces, scorpions, humans) in frenetic run-and-gun combat. Battles are accompanied by gunfire sounds, screams of pain, and large explosions. Large blood-splatter effects occur frequently, and several attacks cause enemies to explode into bloody chunks. Some areas depict mutilated body parts on the ground or falling from ceilings."
Interestingly, according to SteamDB Quake received an update on Steam available only to developers. This version would be used to test content that is not yet aimed at a wider audience. Whether this is related to the upcoming presentation at QuakeCon, we will find out soon. The event will begin today, and the panel on the remaster is scheduled for the next day at 7:30 AM PT.
