PUBG Earns Heaps and Introduces Considerable Change in Respawn
PUBG, the popular battle royale game, is making heaps of money on PC. The developers have shared details of a new update that will make changes to the respawn system.
PUBG stands surprisingly strong in 2023. Six years after its release, the forefather of the battle royale genre can boast quite a bit of popularity.
Publisher Krafton announced preliminary financial results for the first quarter of 2023, reporting "the highest revenue ever from PUGB" - on PC, they rose 68% year-on-year. This is the main driving force behind Krafton's "record quarterly revenue" of $407.8 million.
The result is a net profit of $202.2 million, also influenced by Krafton's mobile division, which is also enjoying growth, thanks in part to sandbox mode in PUBG Mobile and numerous new products on offer. The only thing missing was a mention of Callisto Protocol.
This is not surprising, however, given that the game did not meet the high expectations. Analysts claimed at one time that Krafton had hoped for 5 million copies of the game sold in the first year, but in a little over a month after its release it was purchased by "only" 2 million people. In the face of considerable criticism that fell on the game after its debut for its poor performance, it may be very difficult to meet the targets.
High interest and changes in the game
Returning to PUBG, the battle royale also looks very healthy in terms of the number of players - the title is launched regularly by approximately 400-500 thousand people. After so many years and in the face of strong competition, this is a remarkable result. The title is also regularly developed and improved, as demonstrated by the announcement of a new patch.
It will introduce, among other things, an important change in the player respawn system, which is expected to alleviate the sense of frustration after death during team play. Thanks to the Blue Chips obtained on the map from fallen comrades, we will be able to bring them back to battle.
Currently, the news can be tested on PC on the test server. The update will be made available to everyone on May 17 on PC and May 25 on consoles. More details can be found here and in the video below.
