I think most people would agree – ArmA Reforger has come a long way! After a rocky start in early access in May 2022, it got some flak for being bare-bones and buggy, which led to mixed reviews. But over time, the devs really stepped up, rolling out updates that improved stability, added new features, and expanded the content. The addition of powerful modding tools and better gameplay has helped the community see it in a much better light. It now stands as a great showcase of the Enfusion engine and a promising step forward for the ArmA series. Now that ArmA 4 is (hopefully) still on the horizon, let’s see what the development team has planned for ArmA Reforger in the coming year.

Lead Dev of ArmA Reforger provides answers to all your burning questions

On January 14, 2025, the Project Lead for ArmA Reforger answered nearly all of the fans' questions during AMA on r/ArmaReforger. Let me tell you, the most dedicated players are going to be thrilled! There are even more features coming than originally planned on the roadmap. Whether you’re on PC or Console (yep, it just launched on PS5), here’s the gist:

  1. Destructible Environments: Back to ArmA standard with sound and particle effects, with more improvements planned, but 'Advanced Building Destruction' is not in the plans for Reforger.
  2. New Content: Two new rocket launchers (AT4 and RPG-26) are coming, along with more vehicles and some secret features beyond the roadmap. He clearly stated that boats aren’t planned, but who knows, maybe some amphibious vehicles? For now, he doesn’t want to spoil the surprise.
  3. Mod support for PS5: Modding support is coming to PlayStation 5, and the Make ArmA not War 2025 competition with a $100,000 prize pool is underway.
  4. Night Vision Googles: Nope, these will still be available only through mods, but PlayStation players can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The team is working on improving nighttime visibility, so hopefully, no more relying on flashlights (which just make you easier targets) or staying in the base until dawn.
  5. New game modes: Reintroducing capture and hold scenarios.
  6. Steering Wheels/Pedals/HOTAS: These aren’t a priority right now.
  7. No suppression! That’s it, deal with it.
  8. Jests, Gore and more: No limb removal or excessive gore; jests might appear in ArmA 4, but not in Reforger, and they’re working on increasing official server capacity.
  9. ArmA 4: Reforger will likely take a backseat in development once ArmA 4 is released.

So, there's still a ton of stuff to look forward to, like Kolguyev, that legendary map from ArmA Cold War Assault. The big question is when exactly we'll get to play on it!
