PS4 Games That Won't Run on PS5 and New Compatibility Info

Sony has revealed a list of games on PlayStation 4 that will not work on PlayStation 5. In addition, we've learned new details about backwards compatibility.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Sony has revealed detailed information about the backwards compatibility of PS5 with PS4 games.
  2. Only 10 titles from the PS4 will not work on PlayStation 5.
  3. Some game-related system components will also be missing.

Sony has released a list of PlayStation 4 games that will not work on PlayStation 5. Good news, it is short. After extensive testing, which was first mentioned in March, a list of titles was prepared on PlayStation's support page. It looks like this:

As you can see, apart from Hitman Go, TT Isle of Man 2 and Shadow Complex Remastered, we are dealing with mediocre, not to say bad, games. The other games (well over 4,000) should easily launch on PlayStation 5, some of which will benefit from the extra power of the new console, some of which may show minor misrepresentations. For this reason, Sony points out that we should always update our PS5 to the latest software version. It looks like any issues with backward compatibility will be corrected as the console's system is perfected.

It was also emphasized to check the performance of a selected title on PS5 before buying any add-ons, and to assess whether we are satisfied with how the game runs. For PlayStation VR compatible titles, we will of course need goggles and a special PS Camera adapter that comes with the console.

The process of launching PS4 games on PS5 will be simple. If we have a title on the disc and PlayStation 5 version with optical drive, all we have to do is put the game into the console, download any updates we need and we can play. Digital versions can be copied directly from PS4 to PS5 or downloaded again from PlayStation Store.

It was also clarified which system features from PS4 will not work on PS5 in games running in backwards compatibility mode. The features will be:

  1. Option to play PS4 tournaments
  2. Live from PlayStation tab
  3. Option of additional screen and apps accompanying the game

We will not use the new camera in PS4 games. The Share menu (opened by holding down the relevant button on DualShock 4) will also not be available, which will change the operation of shortcuts associated with this option. Pressing the Share button will open a new creation menu, holding it will take a screenshot, and double-clicking will start (or stop) a video recording.

As we can see, the initial concerns about limited backwards compatibility were unfounded. The games that we won't run on PS5 are mostly niche (and weak) games, so no one will cry for them. It's just a pity that Sony still hasn't been tempted to present how the improved PS4 games will work and look on PS5.
