IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. PS3 firmware update to version 4.88 is now available.

December 3 saw the latest firmware update for the PlayStation 3 console to version 4.87. Unsurprisingly for many, yesterday Sony released another system update. Version 4.88 not only patches some holes and bugs left in the PS3, but also updates the security keys for Blu-ray movie discs. We have to prepare ourselves for a download of about 200 MB of data.

The update was announced by the official Twitter account of the RPCS3 emulator. Sony's announcement emphasizes that the update is required if we want to take full advantage of the PS3's online capabilities. Although in 2021, the group of people who actively spend time on this console is rather insignificant.
