Horizon Online, with more than one million players on servers, shows how much faith Sony has in game-services, despite Concord's failure
Horizon Online is expected to accommodate up to more than a million players on Guerrilla Games studio's servers.
The developers of the Horizon series aim to draw in more than a million players to their multiplayer game. At least that's what the job advertisement posted by Guerrilla Games studio suggests.
On the developer's official website, a job offer was published for a senior engineer who will be responsible for the network infrastructure of the team's new project (via GamesRadar). As we read, candidates for this position are required to have "proven experience on building and operating multi service, 1M+ user globally distributed systems across multiple public cloud providers."
The announcement doesn't mention the name of the project, but we have known for a long time that Guerrilla Games is working on a multiplayer project in the Horizon series universe. At present, this is intended to be a priority for the studio, which will begin work on the third installment of the main series only after completing this game.
As we know from many cases, developers always leave themselves a margin in the case of network infrastructure to avoid problems with connecting to servers, and yet they often underestimate the number of players trying to join the game.
Nonetheless, the limit set for more than a million players is ambitious. Perhaps even too ambitious, considering the current situation in the game market and the failure of Sony's latest online "hit". This was supposed to result in the cancellation of many other game-services that the company's studios were developing, but it seems Horizon Online didn't meet the same fate.
