Sony is still keeping us in suspense about the official date of the upcoming PlayStation Showcase. So we have to rely on rumors, and according to the latest ones, we won't have to wait much longer.

The information comes from the well-informed journalist Jeff Grubb at Giant Bomb. According to him, the PlayStation Showcase will take place this month. What's more, while it's possible to hold the event in late May, Grubb believes it's much more likely that Sony will choose next week or the week after that.

Last year, the PlayStation Showcase was held on May 24th and it was a Thursday. Sony will probably hold this year's presentation on May 16 or May 23 if they choose the same day of the week. According to Grubb, one of the stars of the event is to be the remake of Silent Hill 2, which the Polish studio Bloober Team is working on.

Organizing the show quickly would be to Sony's advantage, as Microsoft is currently not on a good streak, and gamers are very upset about the shut down of Arkane Austin studios (of the famously excellent Prey and the much less successful Redfall) and Tango Gameworks (devs of Hi-Fi Rush, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and The Evil Within series), as well as concerned about the declining sales of Xbox consoles.

So Sony can use the upcoming PlayStation Showcase to demonstrate its strengths in light of the series of bad news from the Microsoft camp. Of course, in order for this to happen, the Japanese corporation needs to provide an impressive show, as last year's event was exceptionally disappointing.
