Playing Baldur's Gate 3 in FPP View is Entirely New Experience That, While Clumsy, Has Become Possible

This is what a game from Larian Studios would look like if it were developed in collaboration with Bethesda. The first-person perspective has something charming about it.

The more popular the game, the more mods are created for it. Although there is no shortage of content in Baldur’s Gate 3, fans are making the RPG from Larian Studios even more diverse - and we're not just talking about visual aspects. Modders eagerly alter the gameplay, introducing new playable characters or moving away from the hard-to-learn turn-based combat mode. The mere introduction of the toolkit contributes to the creation of new maps, which may soon see the light of day.

The creation of the FPP mode in Baldur's Gate was therefore only a matter of time. What do the Forgotten Realms look like from first-person perspective?

Details we didn't pay attention to

The experiment was initiated by a YouTuber known as Proxy Gate Tactician, who combined several modifications to see how BG3 will handle FPP view. He presented the entirety of his struggles in his latest video, arguing his decision with the desire to discover every nook and cranny of the world.

Despite being an isometric game, the developers have put insane detail into every inch of the world. So much so, that you just can’t really see it with the game's default camera. That's why in this video I've modded the game to be locked to a first person PoV, and took on the game’s combat + exploration to see if you can still beat Baldur’s Gate 3 while locked in first person PoV,"

Is it possible to beat Baldur in this embodiment? Definitely. Maybe not without problems (an example of which is Lae'zel getting kicked to help with the fight in Avernus), but still. For the purpose of gameplay, the YouTuber created a rogue-hunter character to make the battles as close to an FPP game as possible. The camera remained locked on the protagonist, which – as you can guess – effectively discouraged the player from using the help of companions.

Nonetheless, ultimately it was worth a try. Proxy particularly praises the detail of the environment, which is hard to notice with isometric view. The YouTuber praised, among other things, the Githyanki dragon and the appearance of the Shar temple - on the other hand, it was not difficult to notice that meticulousness began to fade with the progress of the plot.

"Super fitting that Act 1 had basically no ceiling issues and was super interesting to explore in first person compared to Acts 2 and 3,"

However, the underdeveloped second half of the campaign did not discourage the viewers, who also fell in love with this unusual perspective on Faerun. Some even started begging modders to create a more polished version of an FPP Baldur's Gate, to be able to discover the delights on your own.

Seven mods in one

As Proxy explained at the end of the video, his FPP mode is actually a combination of several mods to create the right effect. Primarily, the "Script Extender" is required, without which the other modifications will not work. In addition, Proxy decided to use, among other things, "WASD Character Movement" (allowing character control with keys) and various camera movement mods.

The Youtuber is aware of the chaotic nature of the guide in the description, so perhaps in some time he will develop an actual tutorial on how to install all the mods and create your own FPP in Baldur's Gate without any problems.
