Planet Zoo Devs Will Make Formula 1 Games

Studio Frontier announced today that it has acquired a several-year Formula 1 license to create official video games based on the brand. The first one is expected to appear with the start of the Formula 1 season in 2022.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Frontier, the creators of Planet Zoo among other titles, has announced that it has acuired the official Formula 1 license to create official video games under this brand for a period of several years;
  • The agreement covers the production of four management titles, the first of which is to be released at the start of the Formula 1 season in 2022;
  • The developers also informed that the company has signed two more cooperation deals as part of the Frontier Publishing initiative.

Today, we learned that Frontier, the creators of Planet Zoo, among other titles, has acquired the official Formula 1 license to create official video games based on the brand for PC and consoles. The agreement is to be valid for several years and primarily includes the creation of four titles, the first of which will be released with the start of the Formula 1 season in 2022. It is worth noting that these are to be manager games, which means that we will most likely simply manage the chosen Formula 1 team. No additional details have been revealed so far.

What is more, the developers from Frontier also informed that the company has signed two more deals as part of Frontier Publishing initiative, thanks to which third-party studios can create their own productions under the name of Frontier. No wonder that the creators are optimistic about the future. Frontier's Chief Executive, David Braben, believes that the studio's experience will in turn provide an amazing experience for Formula 1 fanatics around the world.

Frank Arthofer,the Director of Digital and Licensing at Formula 1 seems to be equally pleased with this cooperation.

This new manager franchise will allow fans to experience the challenging management aspects of the sport through immersive simulation games, and make that experience as accessible as possible for a broad audience. We have huge respect for Frontier and their achievements in the management simulation category, and are thrilled to be working with them for the 2022 season and beyond."
