Peter Molyneux is a very well-known developer and game industry persona. Although he undoubtedly owes his recognition to such famous titles as Fable or Black & White, one more thing contributed to it - his activity in the media, specifically interviews in which the British programmer made exaggerated promises.

Repentance of the British programmer

Molyneux recently appeared on the My Perfect Console with Simon Parkin podcast, where he commented on his past behavior. The programmer called himself a specialist in talking about the titles he invented, which have not yet been completed. As a result, the final product lacked the elements the Briton mentioned, as developers often first learned about them just from press and were unable to implement them.

"I specialized, if that's the right word, in talking about the games I came up with before they were completed. And you know, as happens with any unfinished project, quite often everything changes," said Peter Molyneux.

In addition, the programmer mentioned that during the interviews he was heavily inspired by journalists' questions, which probably only intensified his enthusiasm and willingness to make promises.

In a later part of the conversation conducted in the podcast Molyneux admitted that he deeply regrets this approach to interviews and is tormented by remorse, and admitted that he could have emphasized and encouraged to take his words with a proverbial "pinch of salt." Nevertheless, he justified such a way of interviewing journalists in the 1990s and early 2000s. According to him, what was important then was to show passion for the game that was being created.

"For me, giving press interviews back then was about showing the passion you have for the game, the passion for the thing you are creating. I should have added 'Everything I say should be taken with a pinch of salt,' in every interview."

Interestingly, in the podcast Peter Molyneux immediately had a good opportunity to present a new behavior when talking about his games, as the issue of his new project, about which we have already heard.

The programmer revealed that the acronym for the name of his new production is more or less "moat" and it is in the early stages of development. There are 25 developers working on this title. The interviewer himself did not press for the exact order of the letters or the development of this acronym, and the reluctance of the Briton to continue on this topic may suggest his reticence to discuss a game under development (that's indeed a first for Molyneux) or his lack, at least for the moment, of an idea for the title.
