People Raised $1.8 Million For a Smart Cutting Board
A fundraiser for the ChopBox, a... smart cutting board, equipped with a number of functions and charms useful in the kitchen, is just coming to an end. The Yes Company was supported by 13,000 people who raised as much as $1.8 million. This is about 18000% of the amount requested by the creators of the device.
The world is moving forward - more and more devices and household appliances gain additional functions and smart capabilities. Some time ago we joked that soon we would be able to talk to our own fridge. Today, when we look at our household appliances with more and more uncertainty (mistrust?), such sentences are not as funny as they used to be. However, this is only the beginning, because the group of intelligent devices will soon include many more items. For example... a cutting board.
The Yes Company is working on a revolutionary, first ever intelligent cutting board called ChopBox. The project is funded by a Kickstarter campaign (which ends today, in about 3 hours) and enjoys great popularity on the website. The creators managed to raise 1.8 million dollars, while the goal was only... 10,000 (the expected amount was collected within 10 minutes of the start of the action).
Absurd? Crazy? Perhaps... But you know what? Contrary to appearances, it's not as stupid as it sounds at first. The device should have a built-in weight, stopwatch, sharpener and even a UVC lamp, which will be able to eliminate 99.9 bacteria and germs on the knives or cutting surface. The equipment will be waterproof (although it should not be washed in a dishwasher) and will last up to 30 days on a single charge.
The board will be sold for 199 dollars (if we contribute to the collection we can buy it just for 100-120 dollars). It's no small thing for a cutting board, but for some people the ability to replace several kitchen appliances with one small item can be worth the money. If you are intrigued by ChopBox, we encourage you to take a look at the video below.
