Patch 1.0.3 for God of War PC Fixes Memory Leaks
Performance-killing memory leaks in the PC version of God of War have just been patched with update 1.0.3.
Latest patch 1.0.3 for the PC version of God of War fixes the problem with memory leaks. Thus, they should no longer cause serious performance drops or game crashes. Apart from fixing the aforementioned issue, the update does not bring any other changes or improvements.
What are memory leaks and what causes them? Each running program reserves a certain amount of RAM from its free pool for a given operation, e.g. loading a level. After its completion, if subsequent tasks require a smaller portion of resources, the application returns memory to the system, which is no longer used.
However, if the program was not written correctly, it may "forget" to return the surplus RAM but registering doing it nevertheless. Thus, when the app starts the next operation requiring more resources, it will reserve another portion of RAM from the free pool.
This will eventually lead to a situation where an erroneously written program will hog all available memory, with a constant appetite for more - significantly lowering the performance of the entire system (until the faulty app is shut down).
