Pairing Sony's PC Games With PSN Might be Optional After All
It turns out that linking Sony's PC games to PSN may be optional. Moreover, it should come with additional bonuses.
- PSN references were found in the data of the PC edition of Marvel's Spider-Man .
- They suggest that the developers planned to introduce the possibility of linking the game to the service.
- Integration with PSN was to be associated with bonuses for players.
Some time ago the news broke that in the future Sony may require users playing PC ports of PlayStation titles to create a PSN account. Of course, the company has not yet announced such a requirement, but the FAQ on PlayStation's website left a way to introduce such a requirement.
And now the release of Marvel's Spider-Man on PC has brought further clues to the matter. However, new reports suggest that the PSN integration may be voluntary.
PSN on PC could be associated with benefits
Premiere of Marvel's Spider-Man on PC attracted a large group of fans who like to rummage through game files. It wasn't long before they found some rather interesting references to PSN, such as "PSNAccountLinked" and "PSNLinkingEntitlements" {via VGC).
They clearly suggest that the developers were planning (or merely considering) introducing into the game the ability to link it to a PSN account. And those are not the only interesting fragments. A mention of "PSN Linking bonuses" and "LevelCapExtras" was also found in the files.
This, in turn, seems to mean that connecting to the PlayStation Network would entail special bonuses in the form of additional skill points. At the same time we can infer from this that linking to a PSN account was to be optional, not mandatory.
This is certainly good news for gamers who would not want to face the necessity of creating another account - this time a PlayStation one. That is, of course, as long as Sony intends to introduce the possibility of connecting to PSN in the form described above at some point.
After all, it cannot be ruled out that it will eventually look completely different, and the integration will become mandatory. However, we will only find out about this when Sony's next PC games are released.
