God of War Ragnarok on PC Has a Major Flaw Fixed by a Fan
PC gamers clearly didn't like the fact that God of War: Ragnarok requires a PSN account. So one of them developed a mod that changes that.
The recent launch of the PC version of God of War: Ragnarok was not entirely successful. The day after the game's debut on Steam, only 66% of player reviews were positive. The situation has improved a bit since then, as now 70% of reviews in this store praise the production, but it is still clear that the reception of the production is much colder than in the case of the previous entry in the seriess
One of the main reasons for the negative reviews is the requirement of PlayStation Network account, despite the fact that this is a single-player only game. It annoyed PC players so much that one of them - with the nickname iArtorias - decided to do something about it and developed the modification NoPSSDK.
The mod removes the need for a PSN account. After installing it, the game may still ask if we want to link our PlayStation and Steam accounts (as in the screenshot below), but simply say no to move on.
- NoPSSDK – download the mod from our FTP (the author allows mirrors of his project to be freely published)
Installation is simple - extract the archive with the mod to the game folder. For most players, this is enough, but if you get an error afterwards, delete the file you find in the folder:
C:\Users\[USER NAME]\Saved Games\God of War Ragnarök\[AccountID]\userpreferences
Some players report that even then the game still requests a PSN account, but in that case the mod's author advises to block the GoWR.exe file in the firewall.
It’s worth remembering that this isn’t the first Sony game where PSN ended up controversial. This also happened with Helldivers 2. In that case, it was a multiplayer title, so normally it would not have caused such a reaction, but players were angered by the fact that the need for such an account was added only a few months after the release. In this case, the reaction was so negative that Sony reversed its decision. The victory for gamers was temporary, however, as the requirement returned in the PC-based Ghost of Tsushima. It seems that the Japanese conglomerate has insisted that all its new PC conversions require a PSN account. So we can expect to see more NoPSSDK-style mods in the future.
