Nintendo Will Disable Network Features for 3DS and Wii U
Nintendo has announced its intention to disable online features for the 3DS and Wii U consoles.
We don't have good news for 3DS and Wii U console owners. Nintendo has announced that most network functions on both devices will be shut down in early April 2024. It also warned that this could happen even sooner if problems arise that make it impossible to continue these services.
- As a result, multiplayer modes, including co-op, in all games for these platforms will be disabled.
- Also, additional online features in games will cease to function, including ranking. The exception will be the Pokemon Bank service, which enables you to transfer creatures between devices, but it too may be disabled in the future.
- On the other hand, it will still be possible to download updates, as well as download digitally purchased games.
- Offline play will not be affected by the changes. All features and game modes that do not require online communication will remain available.
There is no denying that these are very unfavorable changes. However, everyone expected them. After all, on March 27 of this year Nintendo closed the eShop for the 3DS and Wii U console versions, so it was only a matter of time before the online features were further restricted.
Prior to the closure of eShop access, owners of these consoles (primarily 3DS) started buying up the most interesting and niche titles. Therefore, it is some consolation that even after April 2024 they will still be able to download these games to their devices.
