Angry Players Review Bomb Nier Automata on Steam

NieR: Automata's card on Steam was flooded with negative reviews. Gamers are furious that this particular release received no fixes, despite the fact that a much improved version of the game debuted on Game Pass a few days ago.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The PC version of NieR: Automata on Game Pass is much more refined than the Steam release;
  2. To date, the Steam version has not received a single patch;
  3. Angry gamers have review bomber NieR: Automata on Steam.

Last week, the PC version of NieR: Automata was included in the Xbox Game Pass offer. Surprisingly, this release was noticeably better than the one available on Steam, released two years ago. Fans expressed their dissatisfaction, flooding Valve's service with a ton of negative reviews. Players hope that this will force Square Enix to update the Steam version.

NieR: Automata debuted on Steam in 2019. The PC version turned out to be quite a success, but despite this, it has not lived to see any updates so far. This is a big problem, because this edition leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to technical condition. It crashes often, may render graphics in the wrong resolution, and players are plagued by clipping animations.

The edition present on Steam is the so-called Game of the YoRHa Edition, while the one from Game Pass is called Become As Gods edition, containing all DLCs. Above all, the latter version has fixed all the aforementioned technical problems. It also throws in an optional first-person mode.

As of March 18, the vast majority of reviews on Steam are negative.

NieR: Automata is such a good game that, until now, PC gamers have simply gritted their teeth and had fun despite the lack of a patch. This was facilitated by the excellent FAR (Fix Automata Resolution) mod, which fixes most of these issues. As a result, over 80% of user reviews on Steam were positive, which the site interpreted as a "very positive" reception of the game. Until recently, the last 30 days' reviews had a similar average, but this has now changed as the arrival of the patched version on Game Pass has angered gamers.

The number of bad reviews given out now is so high that only 53% of the reviews from the last 30 days are positive. Since March 18, more than 830 people have reviewed the game negatively. As a result, the reception in this category on Steam has gone from "very positive" to "mixed".

It is difficult to judge whether this flood of negative reviews will have the desired effect. The improvements present in the version on Game Pass were prepared by the Polish studio QLOC, and it is not known whether Square Enix paid for it, or whether the work was done on behalf of Microsoft. In the latter case, Microsoft may not be willing to share the fixes with the rest of the PC gamers.
