New World is Now the Most Popular MMORPG in Steam's History
Despite the problems with servers, the launch of New World turned out to be a great success. The game dominated the Steam bestseller list and achieved one of the highest activity scores in the history of the store.
Everyone expected New World to be a hit, but the sheer scope of the game's popularity turned out to be surprising anyway. Amazon Games' MMORPG took as many as four spots in Steam's weekly top ten bestsellers, including the entire top 3.
The project is sold only in two editions, and the Deluxe edition took the fifth place. So the standard version can be found on the first three places of the list. Such oddities are common in Steam bestseller listings, and we almost never get an explanation as to what causes this.
The game is also achieving crazy activity results. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day New World was played by 913,634 people at the same time on Steam. This is the fifth highest score in the store's history. Only Playerunknown's Battlegrounds (3.2 million players), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (1.3 million), Dota 2 (1.29 million) and Cyberpunk 2077 (1.05 million) can boast a better result. Amazon Games' work is thus the most popular MMORPG in Steam's history.
The game achieves sensational sales and activity results despite the fact that the launch did not go smoothly. The servers are overcrowded and players have to wait in long queues.
Many people are expressing their frustration by giving New World a negative rating on Steam. Currently, only 61% of user notes are positive, which the service categorizes as "mixed reception". However, looking at the activity scores, players are complaining, but still continue to play.
