Yesterday, at the hottest moment the game was played by 190,811 people on Steam. This is almost four times more than 52,000, which was the record of last year's tests organized in the fall. Yesterday's result is also one of the highest in website's history in this category. Only Destiny 2 can boast a better achievement, and it is a free-to-play game.
New World's beta can be accessed in two ways. On the official website there is still a signup form available, but it does not guarantee access in contrast to pre-orders. This is probably one of the main reasons that the game's pre-orders took two positions on Steam's weekly bestseller list.
Not only did gamers flock to the test version of the game, but they also crowded the streams. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, broadcasts from New World on Twitch were watched by as much as 731,000 viewers at the same time, which made this MMORPG the leader in viewership on this service. At the time of writing this news, it is the most popular game in this service, overtaken only by the general Just Chatting.
It seems like the developers did not expect such a high interest in the beta. On Reddit, fans are reporting long queues in some regions. In South America, users have to wait for a dozen or even several dozen hours to join the game.
For this reason, for now there are not many extensive reviews of the beta. The lucky users who managed to play for a longer time, praise the crafting and PvP gameplay. Some people complain about the open world, which lacks activities and dynamic events, so players just run from one quest to another. Mixed feelings are also aroused by the combat system. It looks impressive and gives a lot of options, but enemies do not react to hits and do not even slow down their own attacks.
Overall, however, testers are optimistic about New World. Many compare the project to Valheim or such titans of the MMORPG genre, such as Albion Online or Runescape.
