'Significant Improvements' on Steam Now Available
The latest update for Steam is now available. Valve has made quite a few changes to its platform, which should please the users.
Logging on to Steam today, one can see quite a few "significant improvements." Valve has finally released the announced update, tested earlier in the beta version. It introduces, among other things, the function of adding notes in the game. What else has changed on Valve's platform?
The Steam update - a list of changes introduced
Below you will find all the major changes that Valve has introduced today on Steam.
- Notes feature - from now on players can jot down their notes within the game, even offline. Notes are available in .rtf format and you can paste screenshots into them. The player's notes are synchronized between the other devices (PC or Steam Deck) on which the user is logged in.
- New visuals - Among other things, the appearance of dialog boxes, menus, the screenshot manager, as well as the main header and footer of Steam has changed.
- Notifications - when users click the "megaphone" icon, they will see new notifications, while the "green bell" will be highlighted for new player information. In addition, Valve has introduced a "see all" option that displays the entire history, as well as enables players to set the type and location of pop-up notifications.
- The game's new overlay - its interface has changed, offering players the most necessary options. Among them are chat with other users, achievement view, browser, etc. Of course, users can set themselves what they want to be displayed in the overlay.
- Pin windows from the overlay - with this option, players can pin a window (without the title bar) to be displayed during gameplay. This feature includes notes, guides, discussions, achievements and the web browser. Users can set the degree of transparency of the window themselves so that it doesn't bother them too much during gameplay.
In addition to the above changes to the overlay, Valve has also introduced "a general game information panel". Among other things, it contains details about the player's progress, friends currently playing the title or guides.
What's more, the update also includes Steam Deck - profile control on the PC using it is now supposed to be more pleasant. The new configurator is visible in the overlay when the device is connected.
Improvements for Linux and macOS owners
Owners of devices running these systems can enable hardware acceleration, which should significantly improve the performance of Steam. According to Valve, this is to be seen primarily in smoother animations and scrolling, as well as faster response of the player interface.
