New Deus Ex Allegedly in Pipeline; Devs Also Assist on Fable
According to new reports, Eidos Montreal is already working on a new installment of Deus Ex and simultaneously helping with the next Fable game.
A few months ago, Embracer Group acquired the Deus Ex and Tomb Raider brands along with their creators.. Today we learned a bit about what changes the new owner has made to these studios and what the developers are currently working on.
- The company cancelled a yet unannounced RPG about "kids riding bikes," inspired by the TV series Stranger Things. The project was developed by Eidos Montreal, the authors of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
- Eidos Montreal has already begun work on a new installment of Deus Ex, but it should be noted that the project is in the early stages of work.
- The same studio is also developing one new IP, but the scale of that production has been reduced.
- Eidos Montreal is also expected to collaborate with Microsoft to develop games from its brands, including Fable.
- Embracer closed Onoma, a studio formerly known as Square Enix Montreal. The team focused on mobile games - it had to its credit the warmly received Lara Croft GO, Deus Ex GO and Hitman GO.
- The decision to close Onoma is due to the fact that Embracer wants to focus on PC and console games, so the mobile production-oriented Onoma was of no use to it. Some of the employees of this team will be transferred to Eidos Montreal.
The source of all this information is the usually very knowledgeable journalist Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, so we give credence to these reports.
Zero surprise
This information is not surprising. Embracer has never made any secret of the fact that it intends to develop new games from its most popular acquired brands. On top of that, in September the group announced that the acquired studios had regained control of the series they had previously created. In addition to the next installment of Deus Ex, which Eidos Montreal is working on, a new Tomb Raider from Crystal Dynamics is also being developed.
Also the information about cooperation with Microsoft should not be a surprise. After all, Crystal Dynamics is already helping The Initiative with the new The Perfect Dark, so it's no surprise that Eidos Montreal has also been involved in a similar collaboration.
