Gothic FPS Looks Like a Joke; New Gameplay
A Pole involved in fan-made mods for Gothic games continues to work on a Gothic FPS project. Although the execution verges on abstraction, the audience sees the mod's potential.
In recent times the faces of fans Gothic series have shown mostly disappointment. The main reason for this was the fact that the long-awaited remake of the first part returned, under the pressure from players, to the drawing board. The last thing one would expect in these troubled times is a tongue-in-cheek Gothic FPS aiming for the atmosphere of the original Doom.
Gothic on steroids
Responsible for the idea and work on the project is a Pole from the channel Yndrzej Movies. The author regularly creates mocking videos inspired by the first Gothic. In this case it is no different, although the creator notes that the work continues.
The video begins with Nameless' words "I will kill these traitors", followed by the raising of weapons and an attempt to repel the enemy units. The pace of the action and the weapons used by the main character border on abstraction. Nameless moves remarkably fast, like in Doom games. Weapons in the form of a fireball thrower, reminiscent of a rocket launcher or Imp missiles, can only confirm players in this belief.
The modification, despite its peculiar appearance, presents an extremely responsive and pleasant gameplay - clearly differing from the "wooden" gameplay known from the original. The project has been in development for two weeks, and the developer is eager to share the progress. Unfortunately for the moment it's hard to say what the creator's goal is and consequently - what the final version will look like. The release is expected to come before the release of the fan-made mod Gothic 2 Khorinis Chronicles.
Audience sees potential
Viewers on YouTube agree on the reception of the project and look forward to further progress reports. Quotes retain original spelling.
"Oi, I thought you were doing this for jokes, and this is for real! Not bad."
There's also no shortage of ideas, suggesting more variation in gameplay.
"And why not? You can add magic bolts to the crossbow and give runes next to it. If you go for abstractions, you might try what I suggested above. Of course you will do as you think because it is your creation."
