New Cooling in GPUs From AMD
AMD has decided to change cooling in the new generation 2 RDNA-based graphics cards. Things are to become quieter and much cooler from now on.
- New generation reference GPU models from AMD will be equipped with standard axial fans;
- For non-reference cards, AMD's partners will decide on the type of cooling.
Shortly after the Financial Analyst Day conference, AMD's representative Scott Herkelman confirmed on Reddit that the new generation of GPU based on the RDNA 2 architecture will not use a blower, but another type of cooling - standard axial fans. This is similar to what Nvidia has previously used in the GeForce RTX series, for example.
Blowers blow hot air directly outside the case. However, they do not cool as well as axial fans and are much louder. The change announced by AMD will certainly delight many people who have planned to purchase the next generation Radeons.
Herkelman points out that the old type of cooling can still be found on non-reference cards if the company's partners consider that they prefer traditional "blowers" to axial fans.
