Netflix: Fortnite is more dangerous than HBO
Netflix published a financial report which states that it does not compete with other streaming platforms, but with video games, especially Fortnite.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- Netflix considers Fortnite to be more dangerous than HBO;
- Netflix believes that the quality of the content offered is a key issue in the struggle for the customer.
Netflix has published a financial report, from which we learned a few interesting things about its situation and long-term strategy. One of the most interesting fragments is the one that concerns the competition – according to the authorities of the platform, the real threat aren’t the other streaming platforms, but video games, with particular emphasis on Fortnite. YouTube is also a dangerous rival. The most important statistic is the time spent in front of the TV, and customers divide it between different entertainment.
We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO. When YouTube went down globally for a few minutes in October, our viewing and signups spiked for that time. – as we can read in the report.
The key element of the strategy of battle for the customers is the quality of services and available content. That is why Netflix wants to constantly improve these elements.
One of the best weapons in the fight for the customer is the original content. In 2019, the company wants to spend billions of dollars on the production of this type of content (it can afford it – revenues in 2018 amounted to 16 billion dollars). This includes both series like Stranger Things, which debuted in July of the third season – as well as feature films. We would also like to remind you that from now you can watch the second season of The Punisher on the platform.
