Most Popular Windows Versions Across the Years

Windows XP remains the most popular operating system in history. Right behind it, the hated Windows 10. Here's a comparison for the years between 2003 and 2020.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. YouTube has released a video, comparing the popularity of various operating systems in the last 17 years.
  2. Windows XP remains the number one, although Windows 10 is hot on its heels.

Which operating system has been the most popular in the last several years? Thanks to the video listing prepared by the Pie Chart Pirate channel on YouTube, we know that the title still belongs to Windows XP, which gained almost 75% market share at its peak.

The pie chart was prepared based on data from W3schools.com. It was collected by tracking user traffic in the Internet from 2003 to 2020.

The material confirms what everyone has been talking about for a long time. Windows Vista and Windows 8 were huge flops and did not gain even 20% market share. Not surprisingly, they were quickly replaced by Windows 7 and 10. The latter OS almost caught up with WinXP, being present on 72% of PCs and laptops in 2020.

What we can see as well is the growing popularity of MacOS and more or less constant share of Linux between 5 and 7% (depending on the year).
