- Minecraft received Snapshot 21w08a;
- It changes the name of the new stone type - Grimstone - to Deepslate, and introduces several changes and fixes;
- The whole thing is a preview of the larger Caves & Cliffs update, which is due out this summer.
Last week, Mojang AB released the so-called Snapshot 21w07a, thanks to which Minecraft players could test more new features that are part of the upcoming major update Caves & Cliffs. Among them was another type of block - Grimstone. However, the name did not last long. Here is another Snapshot, 21w08a, which renamed Grimstone to Deepslate. The new Snapshot also features improved textures, new sounds, a special block called the Cobbled Deepslate that can be mined, and special Deepslate ores such as Iron, Gold, Lapis, Redstone, and Diamond that are twice as hard to find as normal ores.
In addition, the new Minecraft Snapshot introduces several minor changes. These include generation of worlds (especially caves, which are supposed to be slightly larger), deposition of ores, replacing certain types of terrain with others, and adding pollen around blooming flowers. The game also fixes problems such as poor sound playback on the ground with roots or displaying geodes suspended in the air. More details can be found here.
To be able to check out the Snapshot 21w08a, you have to check the Snapshots option in the "Installations" section in the Minecraft client. However, remember to back up your worlds first. The new features could permanently break them.
We still don't know the exact release date of the Caves & Cliffs update for Minecraft. However, it is expected to be released this summer.
