Minecraft Snapshot 21w03a Adds Shiny Squids
Mojang has released another preview of the Caves & Cliffs update for Minecraft. This time, players can light up their voxel world with the help of glowing lichens and squids.
There's still quite a bit of time left before the next huge update for Minecraft debuts. Not that players have to wait that long to check out some of the new features prepared by the developers. Mojang released another snapshot, numbered 21w03a. As with all previous versions, to test its content, we have to activate it in the game client. An appropriate option can be found in the "Installations" section, where snapshots can be enabled. WARNING: before activating this feature, make a backup copy of your world or run snapshot sessions from a separate folder - test versions can permanently damage your creations.
Snapshot 21w03a does not add much. In fact, the novelties are limited to two elements. The first one is luminescent lichen, which can be placed on blocks using bone meal. The second is a squid (yes, also shiny), which does not appear in the wild yet. After slaughtering the cephalopod, you'll get an ink pouch, enabling you to add an illumination effect to inscriptions and item outlines. This makes them visible even in absolute darkness. However, if you'd prefer to keep the squid as a pet, be warned - don't keep it together with an axolotl, because it will consider the latter as a snack at most.
Apart from these two innovations, the snapshot fixes a number of bugs, such as attracting animals when they are near another player, and incorrect behavior of shulkers. The full list of changes can be found on the game's official website. However, we will wait for the debut of these and other news from the Caves & Cliffs Update until summer.
