Mojang AB continues to present the new features coming to Minecraft as part of the Caves & Cliffs update through what it calls "snapshots". Last week, players were able to see the new underground vegetation such as berries, moss, and hanging roots in action. This week, however, thanks to snapshot 21w06a, there was an option to test the next attractions, which will officially debut in Minecraft in some time .
The main element of the latest Minecraft snapshot are new ways to generate caves. Thanks to them, we will find two new types of caves. The first of them, christened as Cheese, are different-sized "pockets" that "perforate" the soil in a way that resembles Swiss cheese (hence the name). The second one, called Spaghetti, are long underground corridors resembling strands of pasta.
Of course, in the game we will also find the old types of caves. The new ones have been added mainly to make the worlds in Minecraft even more real and diverse.
In addition, the new snapshot offers a look at so-called aquifers, i.e. underground reservoirs where the water level is independent of sea level. They occur, for example, in the form of very picturesque caves with lakes. What is important, the system of generating them will replace the model of creating this type of flooded spaces used in Minecraft so far.
Among other interesting elements present in snapshot 21w06a, we find the option to increase the generated worlds by 64 blocks both upwards and downwards. This means that level 0 does not have to be the total bottom of the map and we can dig even deeper.
Among the elements of the latest snapshot were also some bug fixes, improvements to the textures of overhanging roots or adjustment of some elements for the new features. All additional details can be found here.
To be able to check out snapshot 21w06a, we have to check the Snapshots option in the Installations section in the Minecraft client. However, remember to back up your worlds first. This is because the new features can permanently corrupt them.
According to current plans, the Caves & Cliffs update in its full form will appear this summer. However, the exact date is unknown.
