Minecraft 1.18 - Latest Snapshot Focuses on Biomes Again
Another snapshot for the upcoming Minecraft update is available. This is the third part of the snapshots dedicated to changes to be introduced in the upcoming version 1.18. The developers are once again working on the way the terrain is generated.
With the 1.18 update coming later this year and the second part of Caves & Cliffs, the creators of Minecraft are gradually releasing more test versions of the game with new changes. Mojang has now released the third snapshot, which - like the previous ones - introduces improvements to world generation.
Implemented changes are mainly of technical nature and mostly concern the appearance of biomes. The creators tried to avoid, among others, large temperature fluctuations between biomes (e.g. winter next to the desert), or the appearance of swamps in dry areas. Apart from that a new biome has been added: stony peaks, which is something between snowy and mountainous terrain. It will be used to reduce the aforementioned huge temperature changes between biomes. The whole list of changes introduced in the third snapshot can be found here, and the file with the "snapshot" itself can be downloaded here. On the website there is also a manual for installation, which you can use in case of problems.
The creators have also revealed some problems that have been reported by players. There are not many of them, but they are worth mentioning. So, the players have complained about:
- Low performance, which is related to bad snapshot optimization;
- Strange terrain generation in Nether;
- Lack of towers in End, which appear only after the dragon respawns.
If you want to know more details about the previously introduced changes, we wrote about them here and here.
