Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Dev Wants to Create „Most Complex Flight Simulator Ever Undertaken”
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will significantly raise the bar for the series and aviation simulators in general when it is released in late 2024.
The developers of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 claim that this year's release of their series will be "the most complex flight simulator ever undertaken." Such assurance was given during a recent presentation of the new version of Microsoft Flight Simulators.
Some of the visual innovations were already presented in the new trailer for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which was shown during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 stream. However, the details of the changes have now been discussed in a long presentation from FlightSim Expo 2024.
It's evident how detailed it aims to be by comparing the same location in this year's release with its real version in Microsoft Flight Simulator. We have posted the graphic below.
World in full 3D
Microsoft uses an improved photogrammetry system to replace current textures with fully three-dimensional environments, including 30 biomes featuring procedurally generated vegetation. This last one will also react to gusts created by airplanes, helicopters, etc. All of this will be thanks to the use of Azure AI algorithms, which will also detect types of crops in the fields.
Of course, the devs don't forget about other simulation elements. Shading of clouds (including the previously absent cirrus) and locations, rendering improvements (including rotors, sky, and waves - the latter we will finally see in 3D), more animals in the game world, aurora borealis, and a full system of seasons. There will also be support for ray tracing.
In fact, the team even developed mechanics that simulate the credible behavior of fabrics, ropes, and materials with balloons in mind. Furthermore, in the game world, we will find all the real landing pads for helicopters and gliders, as well as drilling platforms.
Airports to visit
The airplanes themselves will also undergo significant changes. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will simulate global air traffic and position data for all planes. The game will also include extensive tools for planning and analyzing flights.
Furthermore, the replay system has been greatly modified, wake turbulence has been introduced for all aircraft, and airports (through which passengers will move) have been reconstructed, allowing players to explore them in FPP view. This will also allow you to check the plane yourself before departure.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be released on November 19 on PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The developers also confirmed that the previous version will continue to be developed through regularly released updates until 2028.
