Fans Already Made Sure to Fix Ultrawide Support in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Years pass, and FromSoftware studio still can't take care of proper support for ultra-widescreen monitors in Elden Ring. Fortunately, an update to the Ultrawide UI Fixes mod has already been released, which fixes this for both the base version of the game and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

The expansion Shadow of the Erdtree for the action RPG Elden Ring made its release last week. Both the game itself and the expansion are wonderful in terms of content, but the same cannot be said about the technical condition. Support for ultrawide screens, with proportions of 21:9, 32:9, and 48:9, has been a persistent issue for FromSoftware's game since its release. Fans had developed their own patches a long time ago, but the latest update (1.12), released simultaneously with the DLC, has broken them. Fortunately, the author of the most important of such mods has already released its new version.

We are talking about the project Ultrawide UI Fixes, which was created by Dziggy. Its latest version is numbered 2.0.0 and makes the mod compatible with both Elden Ring 1.12, as well as the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The changes in the game introduced in the patch were so big that the latest version of the mod doesn't work with earlier releases of the game.

According to the name, the mod addresses all the interface errors and deficiencies that occur when playing in ultrawide/ultra panoramic resolutions (such as those with 21:9 or 32:9 proportions). The mod, among other things, moves the HUD elements to the sides of the screen, where they belong. The menu and window backgrounds have also been modified to fill the entire screen space. The data loading screens have been changed so that we don't have to deal with the strange flickering effect at the edges of the world anymore. Additionally, the world map was expanded to fit the entire screen.

Such things should be standard in the game, especially since in Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon the ultrawide support is implemented. Nevertheless, it's good that we can achieve this in Elden Ring using mods. The FromSoftware studio rightly gets criticized for its technical shortcomings. On Steam, Shadow of the Erdtree currently has only 65% positive reviews, which the service categorizes as a "mixed" reception of the DLC. Players complain mainly about poor optimization. As one of them maliciously wrote:

Really cool final boss. Part of his move set includes lowering the fps below 30 during combat, as well as throwing engine stuttering as an attack.
