Metal Gear Reborn Like Silent Hill? Konami Tinkers With 'Familiar Series'
It's not just Silent Hill that is returning to gamers after a long absence. Konami's other 'familiar series' are also set to receive new games.
Konami fans have not had it easy in recent years. At least until recently, because announcements of many new Silent Hill games gave hope that other neglected series in the publisher's catalog could also hope for revival.
Such a scenario was confirmed by the company's New Year's article, traditionally published by the editors of Famitsu [in Japanese]. In the "year of the Rabbit" Konami is preparing "reinforcements and expansions for well-known series, so they can achieve even more than before."
The publisher also hinted that it is "quietly" working on new projects that it intends to reveal in the future. The company didn't reveal anything more about them, but even that was enough to spark various speculations.
Among the most frequently mentioned candidates to receive new installments are two iconic series from Konami's catalog: Castlevania and Metal Gear. Both brands were mentioned in a leak published by Video Games Chronicle, along with Silent Hill in the context of the publisher's new projects.
It's also worth noting that while it's been a long time since we received a new Castlevania game (no, re-releases and guest appearances don't count), the brand has by no means been forgotten. This was taken care of by Netflix producers, who created an enthusiastically received TV series and are working on its sequel.
According to VGC, the next installment will be a "new reimagining" of the series and is being developed at one of Konami's Japanese studios in cooperation with outside contractors. On the other hand, a new Metal Gear, remasters of older installments or an alleged remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 is definitely not being worked on by Hideo Kojima (the father of the brand).
