Metacritic has released the list of ten worst-rated games of 2021. The presence of some titles should not be surprising.
- Metacritic has published a list of the worst rated games of 2021;
- The list includeds Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition;
- First place went to eFootball 2022.
Year 2021 is coming to an end, so it's time for various summaries. Metacritic got involved in the game and released a list of the ten worst-rated games of the year. Only the critic ratings were taken into account, as the notes given by the players were often very extreme and would sooner help in creating a list of the most hated titles.
Some of you may be feeling a bit of deja vu. We published a similar text a few days ago. However, that list was drawn up by VGC, while the ranking presented below is the official verdict of Metacritic, which followed strict rules.
The worst games of the year according to Metacritic:
- eFootball 2022 - 25/100
- Balan Wonderworld - 36/100
- Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood - 42/100
- Taxi Chaos - 42/100
- Of Bird and Cage - 44/100
- Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition - 47/100
- I Saw Black Clouds - 48/100
- Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace - 48/100
- Demon Skin - 48/100
- Necromunda: Hired Gun - 49/100
There could only be one winner of this ranking. First place on the list of the worst productions of the year was taken by eFootball 2022. The new installment of Konami's football sim was supposed to be a revolution, but it turned out to be a disgrace. The title sparked numerous controversies and dashed the hopes of fans of the now-defunct Pro Evolution Soccer. Moreover, it is a game that is underdeveloped and released too early. No wonder then that we see it at the top of Metacritic's ranking.
Next places were taken by much less known, but equally heavily criticized Balan Wonderworld from the creators of Sonic, Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood and Taxi Chaos. The fifth spot was awarded to the experimental game Of Bird and Cage, which was supposed to be a kind of interactive musical. As you can see, however, it did not appeal to the reviewers.
On the sixth place we find a title that was an obvious candidate for this kind of ranking. We are, of course, talking about Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition. Remasters of old installments of the series turned out to be so bad that they sparked a storm among players. Also the critics were unimpressed with Rockstar Games' work. No wonder that it joined this honorable group.
Next in the order are not very popular titles like independent hack'n'slash Demon Skin, Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace or the interactive movie I Saw Black Clouds. The last place on the list was taken by Necromunda: Hired Gun, an FPS set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Outside the circles of fans of this franchise, it went rather unnoticed, drawing only the attention of Metacritic.
