Mass Effect 5 Not Coming Out Before 2029, Reliable Insiders Suggest
When will the release of Mass Effect 5 take place? It looks like we will have to wait a long time for its debut, as the game is currently still „far away, in another galaxy,” according to trusted informants.
If after the latest teaser of the next Mass Effect game you've already geared up for its release, you're in for a disappointment. According to new unofficial reports, the debut of the fifth installment will not take place until 2029, at the earliest.
The source of this news are insiders Jeff Grubb and Tamoor Hussain, who, as part of a recent Game Mess Mornings broadcast discussed news from the game industry. They touched on a new video from the upcoming Mass Effect - first, they talked about some of the series' plot elements, then moved on to to the topic of the game's release, which is supposedly very, very far away. Here's what Jeff Grubb said:
"The release of this game [the new Mass Effect - editor's note] is not coming anytime soon. [...] Like when they announced Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2018... This is a very similar situation in terms of [release] schedule. It was announced in 2018, and the game will maybe debut next year. So [using that as base] let's do the calculation - we're talking about 2029 for the new Mass Effect."
One could argue a bit with Jeff Grubb's thinking, as his conclusions are very general and his calculations not necessarily accurate. So if the first teaser of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf was released in 2018, and the game comes out - presumably - next summer, it would be six years from announcement to release. Following Grubb, who assumed that Mass Effect 5 (that's the working title) was announced this year - although we should actually consider 2020 - then indeed the game could come out around 2029. However, if this is indeed a situation analogous to that of the release of Dreadwolf (as Grubb claims), then the new Mass Effect should be released in 2026.
In any case we should not take the date given by the insider as the actual release date of the game, but rather bear in mind by this that the game is simply very far from being completed. Tamoor Hussain added:
"I have also heard that it [the game's release - ed. note] is far off. It [Mass Effect 5] is far away now, in another galaxy."
So why is BioWare already releasing more teasers of Mass Effect 5? Jeff Grubb reports that this was done only because of the N7 Day - presumably to satisfy the fans to some extent and to remind that the game is being developed.
It is worth mentioning, by the way, the alleged release date of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which BioWare is expected to finish earlier than the new Mass Effect. According to Jeff Grubb's sources, the game's was supposed to be released as early as September this year, but the debut has been delayed. The insider recently claimed that it can be expected that DA: Dreadwolf will be released at the earliest in the middle of next year.
It is very possible that at this year's The Game Awards gala (in early December) we can expect new footage from Dreadwolf, but not mentions of Mass Effect.
